What this means for firm owners in Minnesota

Minnesota PE licenses renew on this schedule: biennial; renews June 30 of even-numbered years. Each PE needs 24 PDH per biennium, including 2 PDH of ethics.

Track each Minnesota PE’s renewal and PDH records. For this renewal, the board counts PDH hours, including ethics, from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026. Licensees first licensed on or after July 1, 2024 do not need to provide PDH information. The renewal page says carryover hours from the last renewal will appear after login. Confirm the renewal cycle, required hours, and any state-specific requirements on the board site.

When hiring a PE licensed elsewhere, confirm the Minnesota comity process with the board. The board accepts an NCEES Record for comity applications. Professional firm registrations expire December 31 each year and require annual renewal, so plan to check and renew the firm registration before it expires.

Owner checklist

  • Track staff PE renewal dates and confirm the renewal cycle on the board site.
  • Ask staff to track PDH, including ethics, and confirm required hours and state-specific requirements with the board.
  • For hires licensed elsewhere, confirm Minnesota comity steps and NCEES Record requirements with the board.
  • Check the firm registration and plan its annual renewal before the December 31 expiration.
