What this means for owners
The median in Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, TX runs 4 percent above the Texas statewide figure of $96,860. Recruiting from lower-paying markets usually takes a relocation offer that clears the local median, not just your home-office band.
The 90th percentile is 2.5 times the 10th ($65,380 to $162,770). Use the 25th to 75th band ($80,070 to $128,890) as the working range for licensed staff, and keep principals and senior PEs near or above the 75th.
A location quotient of 1.62 means civil engineers make up a larger share of local jobs than the national average, so the talent pool is deep but competition from agencies and large firms is real.
The median hourly wage of $48.30 is the starting point for direct labor cost. Run it through the salary and billing rate calculator to see loaded cost and billing rate at your multiplier.
