What this means for owners
The median in Mount Vernon-Anacortes, WA runs 8 percent below the Washington statewide figure of $110,000. That gap helps margins on fixed-fee work, but it also makes your staff easy targets for firms recruiting remotely from higher-paying markets.
The 90th percentile is 1.8 times the 10th ($80,930 to $147,400). Use the 25th to 75th band ($88,860 to $128,370) as the working range for licensed staff, and keep principals and senior PEs near or above the 75th.
A location quotient of 1.24 means civil engineers make up a larger share of local jobs than the national average, so the talent pool is deep but competition from agencies and large firms is real.
The median hourly wage of $48.70 is the starting point for direct labor cost. Run it through the salary and billing rate calculator to see loaded cost and billing rate at your multiplier.
