Retroactive Date

A date in a claims-made policy that can limit coverage to professional acts occurring on or after that date. The policy's wording controls its effect. If the date changes or disappears at renewal, work performed before the new date may not be covered under that policy.

Why it matters for owners

Tracking the firm's retroactive date helps identify continuity issues when changing insurers or policy terms.
