Warranty

A promise that specified work, materials, or performance will meet stated conditions. Professional service contracts may include express warranties, while some legal obligations can arise independently. Engineers should distinguish a defined deliverable commitment from language that could be read as guaranteeing outcomes beyond their control.

Why it matters for owners

Warranty language can create obligations different from the professional standard of care and may not be covered by insurance.
