Accounts receivable are amounts invoiced or otherwise recognized as due to the firm that customers have not yet paid. Aging schedules group balances by how long they have been outstanding. Receivables may be disputed, subject to retainage, or at risk of collection, so the recorded balance is not necessarily cash the firm will receive promptly.
Why it matters for owners
Receivables affect cash availability and can signal billing or client relationship problems.
