Write-off

A write-off is a reduction in recorded value or an amount of project effort or fees that the firm does not expect to recover. In project reporting, it may refer to hours removed from billing or fees reduced after review. Accounting and project management uses differ, so reports should identify what kind of write-off is measured.

Why it matters for owners

Tracking write-offs can help identify scope, estimate, contract, or collection issues.
