Glossary · Term 024

Scope creep

Scope creep is the gradual expansion of project work beyond the agreed scope without a matching adjustment to fee, schedule, or authorization. It can arise through informal requests, unclear assumptions, or unrecorded revisions. The term describes a management problem, not a conclusion about contractual entitlement.

Why it matters for owners

Early scope tracking can protect project economics and client communication.
