Acquisition

An acquisition is a transaction in which a buyer obtains ownership, assets, or control of a business or part of one. It may be structured as a purchase of equity, selected assets, or another interest. The parties negotiate what transfers, how consideration is paid, and how liabilities and ongoing obligations are handled.

Why it matters for owners

Identifying what is being acquired clarifies the scope of diligence and negotiation.
