Connection design

Connection design addresses how structural members join and transfer forces to one another. Connections may use bolts, welds, reinforcing, anchors, or other components, depending on the material and system. Design responsibility can sit with different parties under different delivery arrangements. Project documents should state the required design and review roles.

Why it matters for owners

Connection scope is a frequent coordination boundary. Clear allocation helps avoid gaps between the engineer of record, specialty designers, fabricators, and contractors.
