Load path

A load path is the route forces take through connected structural parts until they reach the ground or another support. For example, a floor transfers forces to beams, columns, foundations, and soil. The path depends on the structural system and connections. A change to one element can affect other elements that carry the same forces.

Why it matters for owners

Clear responsibility for system interfaces helps control redesign and coordination risk when scope or construction conditions change.
