Groundwater table

The groundwater table is the level below which soil pores are generally saturated, though local conditions can vary. Its depth may change with season, weather, nearby pumping, or site work. Investigations provide observations at particular times and locations. Geotechnical professionals interpret those observations for project needs and state the limits of the data.

Why it matters for owners

Groundwater can affect excavation, foundations, drainage, and temporary works. Investigation timing and assumptions belong in project planning.
