Liquefaction

Liquefaction is a loss of soil strength or stiffness that can occur in susceptible saturated soils during earthquake shaking. Evaluation depends on soil conditions, groundwater, ground motion, and accepted methods. The potential and consequences are site-specific. A geotechnical professional assesses the issue and communicates assumptions, limitations, and any recommended project measures.

Why it matters for owners

Site findings can change investigation needs, design coordination, and project scope. Early screening helps surface relevant questions.
